One of Australia’s long-time, self-appointed potato ambassadors to the United States, Dale Abblitt of Tasmania, died this week.

Abblitt was known throughout the western United States industry for his curiosity and interest in potato farming.

He ran a potato seed-cutting business in Tasmania. He came to the United States for many years during springtime (winter in Australia) visiting dozens of farms.

His purpose was to gain insight into the United States potato industry. His visits would almost always include Milestone/Blackfoot, one of the world’s foremost seed-cutting equipment manufacturers in Blackfoot, ID.
