According to Washington state potato growers, processors have been calling for early potatoes to run processing plants this year.

The effect probably won’t be realized until next year when it is believed there will be a shortage of potatoes for processing on the other end of the production/processing cycle.

The Washington crop is being described as “average”. However, with many growers called upon to harvest early, growers don’t think their tubers have had time to bulk up like they could.

Ranger Russets were taken early along with the Norkotah and Shepody varieties.
